The London Men’s side secured the Jones Division Championship and an invite to the Marshall with a 20-12 victory over Waterloo. London was looking to avenge an earlier loss in the season to Waterloo and by doing so was able to beat every team in the league for a second straight year as well they extended their regular season home winning streak which has lasted over 2 years.
With a strong wind blowing at the pitch, it was clear a kicking game was going to occur and London had to fight into the wind in the first half. London was able to just that as they were able to push their way into Waterloo’s 22 when outside center Ryan Jenner was able to break the line and cut and weave his way over for the opening try and a 7-0 London lead. Waterloo was able to pin London deep with the wind advantage but London was able to hold off the pressure for most of the first half before finally allowing a try and the lead was cut to 7-5 entering the second half.
London clearly was using the wind in the second half as Flyhalf Derek Daypuck kicked deep into Waterloo territory repeatedly. Eventually London was able to score as fullback Pat Bousfield returned a kick single-handed for a try and a 14-5 lead. The kicking continued when Daypuck hit a drop goal as well as an attempt at posts extending the lead to 20-5. Waterloo was able to break a tackle and put in another try for a 20-12 game but that was as close as it would get and be the final score.
London was able to win 8 straight games and secure its first every division title. London’s B side was also victorious and is in sole position of 2nd place.
London’s last regular season game is this Saturday at home vs Niagara. With the B side victory they will secure 2nd place in the division and a very successful season for London Rugby.
